Jesus Loves Me

Jesus Loves Me

I know it’s been awhile since I posted a new song. I’ve been working on a few new ones and I even have one all ready to go. But lately I’ve really been thinking about God’s love for me. Such a simple but transforming truth. So today as I sat down in my studio I came up with a new version of “Jesus Loves Me”. I hope you like it 🙂 Ephesians 3:14-19 “When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” This is my prayer for you and me. God Bless You! For His Glory,... read more
Behold the Lamb

Behold the Lamb

Christmas is almost here! It’s so easy to get distracted and forget the reason we really celebrate. I’m sorry I’m posting this so late. Things have been a bit busy for us lately. But I pray that as we start the final countdown to Christmas we will stop and remember. Remember the shepherds on the hill. Remember the host of angels proclaiming the good news. Remember the lowly manger where God took on flesh and blood. Remember the promise that was kept. Jesus came to rescue and redeem us. Let’s come and adore Him. Let’s come and behold Him. The spotless Lamb of God. Merry Christmas! For His Glory,... read more
Faith Over Fear

Faith Over Fear

I’ve been thinking about David and Goliath lately. I have been facing some giants of my own and I thought it would be wise to see how the famous giant slayer did it. We all face giants. They may not look like Goliath but they instill just as much fear and anxiety. They keep us up at night. They rob of us of joy and replace it with worry. Perhaps your giant is a chronic illness that has left you hurting and weary. Maybe it’s a mountain of financial struggles. Or a strained relationship on the verge of breaking. What can we learn from a simple shepherd boy? How did he do it? How was he able to face Goliath with such confidence? Why did he not run away and hide like all the rest of his countrymen? Two things stand out to me. First, he knew who was on his side. 1 Samuel 17:45-46 David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you… David was not facing Goliath alone. He had the Lord of Heaven’s Armies on his side. He didn’t trust in his own strength or armor or weapons. He trusted God. He knew the battle was in God’s hands. He chose faith over fear. Second, he remembered what God had done before. 1 Samuel 17:32-37 “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul... read more
Three Benefits of Star Gazing

Three Benefits of Star Gazing

Here in San Antonio, like any big city, it’s hard to really appreciate the stars at night. There are just too many lights, too much noise. But if you head for the Texas hill country, it won’t be long before the night sky comes alive. You look up, and all you see is stars. There are times when it looks as if God took a paint brush and with one giant stroke covered the entire sky in beautiful shimmering stars. Words cannot do it justice. I need to do more star gazing. It helps me keep things in perspective and reminds me of some important truths. 1. It reminds me who I am and who God is. It’s so easy for me to be self focused instead of God focused. It’s a daily struggle. Sometimes minute to minute. But the stars help me see the big picture. The stars help me forget myself and turn my eyes back on God. They remind me that it’s not about me. Psalm 8 says, “When I gaze to the skies and meditate on Your creation— on the moon, stars, and all You have made, I can’t help but wonder why You care about mortals—sons and daughters of men—specks of dust floating about the cosmos.” 2. It reminds me of God’s love. If you’ve ever tried to count the stars then you realize how impossible that is. They are beyond measure. The stars remind me that the God who created the entire universe, including me, loves me. And He loves me with a love that is infinitely long, wide, high, and deep (Eph... read more
When The Storm Rages

When The Storm Rages

Are you going through a difficult time right now? Are you feeling overwhelmed and discouraged? Do you fall asleep and wake up with a gnawing inside that never seems to go away because you just can’t shake the worry? I’m right there with you. I’m dealing with some things in my life right now that I don’t have any control over. I don’t know what the outcome’s going to be and that scares me. I am privileged to get to share my music with my church family from time to time. I began writing this song for one of those Sundays. The theme is that of God being our shelter from the storm, and it is based on Psalm 91. Psalm 91: 1-2 “He who takes refuge in the shelter of the Most High will be safe in the shadow of the Almighty. He will say to the Eternal, ‘My shelter, my mighty fortress, my God, I place all my trust in You.'” Around this same time my family and I were beginning a challenging but exciting new adventure. We were taking the plunge, so to speak, and stepping out in faith. I continued to work on the song, trying hard to craft into lyric and melody the truth of Psalm 91. But it wasn’t long before I started to smell the rain coming and saw storm clouds forming. Finally the waves were crashing all around me and I began to feel very lost and afraid. One day I sat at the piano and began to play through the song trying to work on the arrangement. It was... read more
