About Me

Hi, my name is Demetrios, and I’m really glad you’re here!

I started this blog for people just like you and me. I want to encourage and strengthen others in their life’s journey. To share the things I’m learning through the good times AND the hard times. To offer hope and to be a blessing.

I believe God made us and loves us, and His desire is for us to have a relationship with Him. I’m learning to trust GOD… one song at a time.

Will you join me?

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m a husband, father, pediatrician, and business owner. But I suppose before I was any of those things I was a songwriter.

Music has shaped my life in so many ways and it still does. I’ve always been fascinated by the way a certain combination of notes and rhythm can affect the way I feel. How a few well chosen words can speak right to my heart. Music is powerful. As I said earlier, I believe God made us and loves us and that His desire is to have a relationship with us. I also believe that He gave us the gifts of music and creativity. I think He uses them in our lives to encourage and to heal. To bring us closer to Him. I know that songwriting has done that for me. When I write songs it brings me joy, and I feel His pleasure.

My love for music started young. I come from a musically rich heritage. My parents were both very musical. My dad can play almost any instrument by ear, his favorites being the guitar, mandolin, piano and harmonica. My mom has a beautiful voice and had some formal piano training when she was growing up. They love singing their favorite hymns together and can harmonize the night away. My mom’s father, a preacher by trade, was a very talented musician and songwriter. Many churches in Greece sing his songs today. My first instrument was the violin. I played from fifth grade through early high school and then stopped because I thought it wasn’t cool anymore (wish I had never stopped). I don’t remember when I first started singing, but I had a lot of practice and fun singing in our church youth choir.

I first learned how to play the guitar in college. Before long I could actually strum and sing at the same time. I started to write my own songs and even wrote one as a project for a Southern Literature class. After college, I went to medical school, but I continued to write some and even sang in a men’s a cappella group called Doc’s on Call. Between medical school and residency I ended up taking a year off. That year, my best friend (who is an unbelievably talented musician) and I started a band called Doxa. We played around town a fair amount, made lots of new friends, and even recorded an album in 1998.

Since then, life has been busy. 🙂 I completed my pediatrics residency. I got married to the most incredible woman in the world. God has blessed us with four crazy, beautiful kids who are growing up way too fast. And after working for a few different doctors I finally decided to open my own pediatric practice.

Through it all, God has been faithful, and when I sit down with a guitar or at the piano we often talk. I share with Him what’s on my heart, and He listens. I suppose that’s what my songs are, honest conversations with my Abba. I’m so excited to be able to share them with you. I pray that God would use them to bless you and help you walk closer with Him.

Thanks for listening!

Demetrios
